A cheerful, print-and-play numbers bingo for Halloween, in five languages.

I made this game for my own Halloween lessons in Geneva. We aren’t as Halloween-centric as the Americans, but monsters, superheroes, food and costumes feed the imagination and never disappoint. In class we do listen-and-colour activities, memory and who has…I have… games, prediction and mime games, and we hand out booklets over the autumn break.

This bingo gets young learners recognising numbers, listening for basic and themed words, and, most importantly, laughing together, growling and play-acting in English or in whichever language(s) you teach.

What Makes This Bingo Different

5 languages in one product.

The number call-out cards come in English, French, German (with some Swiss German variants), Italian and Romansh. The picture call-out cards are in English or blank. The teacher word lists cover English, French, German, Swiss German, Italian and Romansh. The same game works whether you teach ESL, FLE, DaF or Italian as a foreign language.

Cursive, print and capitals.

Swiss cursive (écriture cursive suisse romande, joined letters) to match what children are learning in handwriting, print (manuscript, unjoined) for accessibility, and capital letters for the picture cards. Every bingo card comes in both cursive and print.

30 unique bingo cards in two fonts.

Enough for a full class, or split across small groups. No two are the same, and each one is included in cursive and in print.

A 60-word Halloween picture bank.

Every bingo card has 2 picture “free” squares: creatures and monsters, superheroes, food, clothes and accessories, children in costume, and Halloween things. Sixty words may sound like a lot, but the moon, a mask, decorations, pie and superheroes are everyday words children want to use. With a little twist, they all fit into Halloween and haunted-house tales.

The call-out cards become a booklet.

Each set of 60 picture cards fits on 7 pages. Add the cover and you have 8 pages: a perfect A5 booklet printed on A4. Choose the font and colour version that suits your class and give each child their own “My Booklet of All Things Halloween” to take home over the autumn break.

Built for Storytelling

The pictures make it easy to move from listening to speaking and writing through images, sequences and games, and the theme makes stories easier (and spookier). Younger learners can draw their stories and add labels; older learners can pick a few cards and write sentences or a short story.
